4Excellent defense weaponAug 13, 2010
This is a great defense weapon. You can't fully understand how powerful this baton is until you extend it and feel how strong and powerful the steel is. A light tap on your hand will bring a slight sting. To get a feel for it, I have extended it about 10 times or so. The first few times you open it and then strike the ground to close it, there is no problems. Eventually the first section will start to get stuck. After I oiled it with WD-40, it now closes but with a little more force and 2 strikes at the ground. But other than that, it is a great weapon. I would recommend it to anyone.

4Great baton but not easily concealableAug 09, 2010
The baton is about 10 inches in its shortest state which makes it difficult to conceal, especially considering that in most states it is illegal to carry a baton such as this (I live in Texas where it is illegal to carry these batons on your person or in your car). I took off a star because the company did not state the length of the baton when I looked at the product specs, and I expected it to be something that could easily fit in my pocket. Of course this isn't the case at about 10inches and about an inch wide the only way to conceal it is if you have on baggy clothes. Others have stated that it is difficult to retract, and it is. You won't be able to retract it with your bare hands and I wouldn't recommend it either, if you try you will more than likely hurt your hand or pinch your palm attempting to retract it. It states on the instructions that you need to vertically slam the baton down on a hard surface at a 90 degree angle. Now this may sound like it would damage the baton, but just don't be an idiot and slam it down on concrete or marble or linoleum, and you'll be okay. I usually just slam into my carpet floor or onto the ground where there's grass or dirt, and if there's no carpet around if you hit it hard enough with the hardest surface of your palm it might hurt a little but it gets the job done. The baton itself is quite nice, I would imagine it could take quite a beating it seems sturdily built but the black paint chips a little easy but as long as your not abusing the baton it will maintain its black coating. The baton itself comes with a black holster and a foam grip. I am glad that the grip itself has a good foam grip and is tight against the baton handle. I think 26" is just the right length also I think anything shorter and you have would have to really get close to your attacker, you have to keep in mind that if the grip is 10 inches long retracted, its only 6", 11" or 16" extracted in length, so if you think about it you're only getting 16 inches to use, depending on where you grip the baton. All in all this is a great baton at a really good price, I checked my local Army Surplus store and noticed they had batons that were very similar to this baton but at more than double the price and were only about 21" extended. Also, something worth noting, I ordered this product and wasn't supposed to receive it for about 10 days but was pleasantly surprised to receive within 3 days.

5Great ProductJul 27, 2010
I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of the quality of this baton but I figured the price was right and it was worth a shot. I once had an ASP baton but it was stolen many years ago. I remember it well though. This baton really impresses me. It seems every bit as good as the ASP baton that I remember, only the grip is better on this one. I have a lot of wild predators in my area and I have no doubt that if a coyote or vicious dog came at my little girl there would be 26" of steel in the animals way in a hurry. Remember Call Of The Wild? Even a wolf is no match for a man with one of these. I had a vicious dog come at my little girl as I was walking with her on my own driveway. Fortunately a big stick was handy at the time and I was able to quickly pin the dogs head to the ground with it. I didn't need to hit it. Pushing its head to the ground did the job with no real injury to the dog. If it remained vicious then it would need some more drastic action. After that experience I worried about a time when a stick wouldn't be handy so I bought this. It is big in a pocket, 9 1/2 inches to be exact. It is heavy, but that is the point. It will collapse best if you bring it strait down vertically onto a welcome mat or something similar over concrete, stone or asphalt. You won't scratch it that way. Just check the laws in your area for where you can have or carry it.

4smelly, but does the job.Jun 30, 2010
I'll start off by saying that I can't see what this baton can not do that ones costing 70 or 80 bucks can do. Lets look at some basics: Does it open like it's supposed to? Yep, swing it around quick and suddenly you have a 26" steel defense weapon. Will it hurt if you strike someone (lawfully) with it? You bet it will! Let me say this, I don't want to be the one getting hit with it!
Now for some specifics. Yes, the rubber grip gives off a horrible odor that in itself should ward off evil doers. The grip gives off such a stink I can't stand to have it in the same room with me, but that's beside the point.
Next; it will take some breaking in time to get it to the point where you don't have to swing it as hard to get it to expand, or beat the daylights out of it to collapse it. If you approach it correctly and consider all the parts are new and need to be "seated" and worn a bit to operate smoothly you will end up with a nicely working unit. Granted some folks don't have the patience to sit and fiddle with something that long, but I have 10 hours a night at work in which to do little else but.
I deducted 1/2 a star for the case it come with, it's not the handiest item. I do not like the velcro loop at the top as it holds it securely, but does not allow for a quick one grab draw. If you fasten it loosely enough for that, then it's likely to fall out at some point. I deducted the other 1/2 star for the grip. It does have a diamond checkered pattern on it however if your hands are sweaty in the least and you don't have a gorilla grip on the thing it is likely it could go flying off into the wild blue the first time you use it under pressure. I will be wrapping mine with sports grip tape in lieu of a nice foam grip that probably wouldn't give off a noxious smell either.
Bottom line: It will do what it's supposed to provided you spend some time and familiarize yourself with it. Don't write it off because it opens hard right out of the box and takes some CAREFUL beating to close at first. It will break in. Consider what it cost, and the fact that it is very sturdy steel which when deployed (lawfully) will do what it's intended to do and that is cause pain compliance. I don't know what a baton costing 7 or 8 times more will do any differently, and I'm sure the guy on the receiving end won't know the difference either.

4Better than I thought it would be.Jun 25, 2010
It's heavy. It could do damage to people, property, self, so be careful. Good bang for the buck.
