3Good enough to deter potential theftOct 06, 2009
By H. Won
The cable is about 1/2 thickness of Kensington's. It may not provide the same cut resistance. However, the thin cable is very manageable than thick, stiff cable.

The 3.5ft length limits the distance to a stationary object under a desk to wrap the cable around. I drove a large screw at the eye of the cable because the cable was short to wrap around. The screw may be able to be unscrewed by theft, but it is good enough to deter potential theft in my office. I recommend anything over 5ft cable to effectively wrap around desk leg or a secure hasp.

One more thing, this lock does not provide selectable adhesive spacer to keep the lock snug to the object to be locked. Not a big deal considering the price.

1Just doesn't do it.Apr 12, 2011

I figured worst case, I'd lose $5. We'll, I lost $5. The only value I can find is it's fun having an entire office stop work and try to figure out how to get the key out of this thing. It's kind of a team building puzzle experience. Anyway, it locks fine as long as I want to leave the key in. That just seems to be a minor security flaw.

1Wasted MoneyFeb 27, 2010

I might has well have burned my money. Can't lock a Dell Inspiron 600m. Can't do anything that will keep the lock in the laptop. Any twist and out it comes. One star is one too many.

3Laptop Security CableNov 16, 2009

Works fine and its a very good deterrent. The only thing that I did not like is that the cable is shorter than most laptop security lock cables.

1Won't work on unibody MacBook ProJun 17, 2010
By pixelslave
When I ordered this I had a MacBook Pro laptop c. 2007. This lock fit fine. Then I upgraded my laptop to the current MacBook Pro (2010), which has the unibody construction. The width of the metal around the lock slot in the unibody Mac is wider than the distance between the locking bar and the shaft on this lock, meaning you can not turn it the 90 degrees necessary to lock.
