Not a bad little pepper spray pen.Sep 02, 2011
By Splatt I got this because I was interested to see what it was like (spy stuff? cool!). This pepper spray unit looks like a reasonably high-quality pen. It has a metal body and cap finished in gloss black, and is durable. The clip is brass (or brass-plated) and grips exceptionally well.
What I liked (the Good): *It looks like a pen, which offers a measure of concealment. *It's relatively inexpensive. *The spray comes out in a tight and straight stream about 7 feet long, and lasts for 3 seconds. That's good coverage. *I got full stream strength until there was no spray left. *The spray made my eyes and nose burn, and that was just after taking a whiff of it. I imagine getting hit with it would be even worse.
What I didn't like (the Bad): *I'm not sure this pen would pass any but the most cursory examination. For starters, it's much longer and fatter than even a quality fountain pen, and the cap is surprisingly short when compared to the overall length. When I first saw it, I thought it looked really odd, not at all like an upscale pen, and a careful observer will probably notice this, too. *It's size would seem to limit how it can be carried. It's so long and fat, for example, that it's a poor choice for putting in a shirt pocket, even though you'd think that would be a great place to carry it. I took off a star for this. *The cap is a little difficult to pull off. I took off another star for this.
Overall, though, this isn't a bad pepper spray pen. Probably the best use for this is to clip it inside a backpack, purse, or book bag pocket, where people can still see that it's a pen, but it's odd dimensions won't be noticeable, and where it will still be readily available.
